Women's Overseas Service League Scholarship

Offered by Women's Overseas Service League

About this scholarship

The Women's Overseas Service League Scholarship supports women preparing for military careers or other forms of public service. Awards commonly range from $500 to $1,000 for an academic year, and a recipient may be renewed for a second year after documenting satisfactory progress under the award terms. Unlike a scholarship limited to first-year students, this program requires applicants to have already completed at least 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of higher education with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Eligible programs may be academic, professional, or technical, but they must lead to an associate degree or a higher credential. Applicants commit to at least six semester hours or nine quarter hours during each academic period and to maintaining the program's academic standards. The paper application asks for an official transcript, institutional cost estimates, a resume or curriculum vitae that includes volunteer and civic activity, a financial-need statement of no more than 250 words, and a career-goals essay of no more than 250 words showing a demonstrated commitment to military or public service. Three current reference letters are required, including two from instructors or supervisors. The complete packet is mailed to the League's Scholarship Committee and must be postmarked by March 1.
