Use the headings that fit your experience and delete empty sections. Put the strongest, most relevant section first after Education.
- NAME — City, State | phone | professional email | optional portfolio or LinkedIn
- EDUCATION — school, expected graduation, GPA if helpful, rigorous or relevant coursework
- LEADERSHIP & ACTIVITIES — role, organization, dates, two evidence-based bullets
- COMMUNITY SERVICE — organization, contribution, dates, hours or results when accurate
- WORK EXPERIENCE — employer, role, dates, responsibilities, trust, and measurable outcomes
- HONORS & SKILLS — award name and year; languages, certifications, or technical skills
Write bullets that prove contribution
Use the pattern Action + task + scope/result. “Helped with tutoring” becomes “Tutored four algebra students twice weekly; created practice sets that helped three raise their course grade.” Only claim results you can support.
Good verbs include organized, coached, designed, translated, analyzed, coordinated, trained, repaired, raised, presented, and launched. “Responsible for” usually hides the action you actually took.
What counts when you have limited formal experience
Scholarship reviewers care about responsibility and growth, not only prestigious titles. Paid work, caring for siblings, translating for family, helping in a family business, church or cultural participation, independent projects, and consistent household responsibilities can demonstrate real skill.
Name the work plainly, explain the time commitment, and show what it required. Do not inflate a role, but do not erase meaningful responsibilities because they happened outside a school club.
Tailor the order and bullets for each scholarship. A service award should see service near the top; a STEM award should quickly see technical projects, coursework, and relevant accomplishments.

Common questions
What students ask next
How long should a scholarship resume be?
One page is usually best for high school and early college students. Use a second page only when you have substantial, relevant experience and the application does not specify a limit.
Should I put my GPA on a scholarship resume?
Include it when it strengthens the application or the scholarship requests it. Label weighted and unweighted GPAs accurately, and never round in a misleading way.
What if I do not have awards or leadership titles?
Include work, projects, family responsibilities, service, teams, and sustained participation. Describe the responsibility and contribution rather than inventing a formal title.
