Weston Collective Scholarship Competition

Offered by The Weston Collective

About this scholarship

The Weston Collective Scholarship Competition is a California student portfolio contest devoted to black-and-white photography. The sponsor’s official site now labels and links the 2027 application, although the exact portfolio deadline and ceremony date remain TBA. California students enrolled in elementary school, middle school, high school, college, or university may enter film or digital work. Each entrant submits one portfolio containing five black-and-white photographs made within the preceding year, using a single medium throughout the portfolio. The photographs must be printed, mounted consistently on white 11-by-14-inch or 16-by-20-inch board, and delivered in a clearly labeled portfolio box. Applicants also complete the online application, include a printed application signed by a photography instructor, provide proof of current school registration, and write a one-page artist statement. Entrants younger than 18 need a parent or guardian permission form. A community panel judges portfolios anonymously for originality, clarity, consistency of vision, and presentation. Cash awards range from $200 to $1,000, and tangible submissions may also be selected for exhibition. Because the sponsor has not finalized the 2027 calendar, applicants should use the linked official dates page rather than relying on the May date projected by scholarship directories.
