Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Visual Arts Fellowships

Offered by Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

About this scholarship

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Visual Arts Fellowship Program supports Virginia artists and art or art-history students during the May 2027 to May 2028 fellowship period. Professional individuals and established collaborations may receive $8,000. Graduate students may receive $6,000, undergraduates $4,000, and students graduating in December 2027 may be considered for half-year awards of $3,000 at graduate level or $2,000 at undergraduate level. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and legal Virginia residents. Professionals need 24 consecutive months of Virginia residency before the deadline; students need 12 months or must qualify for in-state tuition in Virginia. Student applicants must plan full-time degree enrollment throughout fall 2027 and spring 2028. High school seniors entering college full time in fall 2027 may apply as undergraduates. Disciplines include crafts, drawing, film and video, mixed media, emerging media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and graduate-level art history. Selection is based solely on artistic merit through blind review. A complete Formstack application includes a resume or CV, work samples and details, an artist statement of no more than 200 words, and an unofficial transcript for students. Applicants may submit only once per cycle. The no-fee application closes at 5 p.m. Eastern Time on November 6, 2026.
