Victoria University of Wellington (Te Herenga Waka), one of New Zealand's leading research universities, offers partial fee-based scholarships to attract new international students. The VUW Undergraduate International Scholarship is worth NZ$15,000 toward the tuition fees of the first year of a full-time, on-campus bachelor's degree, while the VUW Postgraduate International Scholarship is worth NZ$10,000 for new international students entering a master's degree or postgraduate diploma. Both are credited directly against tuition fees, so recipients pay the reduced amount to the University; they are partial awards, so students should budget for remaining tuition and living costs. Eligibility requires being an international student paying full international fees and holding an unconditional or conditional Offer of Place for the relevant degree; students are not eligible if they are returning/current students, study-abroad or exchange students, have received credit transfer, are government-sponsored, or are Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. A convenient feature is that no scholarship application is required — you are assessed for eligibility automatically when you apply for your programme, and successful applicants are notified within their Offer of Place.

Eligibility

• Be an international student paying full international fees
• Hold an unconditional or conditional Offer of Place for an eligible bachelor's or master's/PG diploma
• Be a new student studying full-time on campus (not a returning/exchange/study-abroad student)
• Not be government-sponsored or an Australian/NZ citizen or permanent resident
• No separate application — you are assessed when you apply for your programme
