About this scholarship
The Veolia Vernon D. Lucy III Scholarship offers $5,000 to an undergraduate student interested in working in the water sector. Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions established the award to honor Vernon D. Lucy III’s long industry career and commitment to mentoring young water professionals. The American Water Works Association administers the scholarship through its Water Equation program. Applications for the 2027-2028 academic year are open until November 6, 2026. The award is intentionally broad in academic major: the official requirement focuses on undergraduate standing and a genuine interest in a water-sector career. Applicants must be permanent residents of the United States, Canada, or Mexico, but AWWA membership is not required. Selection is competitive and merit based, with GPA considered as part of the review. Students should use their AwardSpring responses to connect their coursework, experience, goals, or service to a future role in drinking water, wastewater, water technology, utilities, engineering, science, communications, policy, or another relevant function. Any required recommendation must come from a qualified academic or professional reference and arrive before the deadline. Funds are paid directly to the student’s school and may support tuition, books, lab fees, lab equipment, or conference registration, but not rent, living stipends, or per diem expenses. Late or incomplete applications are not reviewed.
Eligibility
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate student
- Demonstrate interest in working in the water sector
- Be a permanent resident of the United States, Canada, or Mexico
- Provide the academic record and merit-based materials requested in AwardSpring
- Ensure every required academic or professional recommendation is submitted before the deadline
- Complete the matched Veolia Vernon D. Lucy III Scholarship application by November 6, 2026
