About this scholarship
The University of Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarship is a new automatic undergraduate award for international fee-paying students admitted to full-time, first-year degree studies starting in September 2026. Eligible students receive CAD $10,000 for first-year studies, applied directly to tuition bills as CAD $5,000 in the first term and CAD $5,000 in the second term. Waterloo states that no separate application, documents, or bank information are required; students who meet the conditions will see the scholarship in the Awards and financial aid tab of the Waterloo applicant portal beginning in April or May. The award does not replace or reduce other Waterloo entrance scholarships, so eligible students may receive it alongside President's, Merit, faculty, or program scholarships. It is not available for several excluded programs, for transfer students admitted with transfer credits, for students deferred from September 2025 to September 2026, or for 2+2 and similar x+y programs. To keep the scholarship, students must enroll full time in their first and second terms and continue paying international tuition fees. There is no fixed GPA requirement beyond satisfying the conditions of admission.
Eligibility
- Be admitted to an eligible full-time, first-year undergraduate degree program at Waterloo for September 2026
- Be an international fee-paying student
- Not be a transfer student admitted with transfer credits
- Not be in an excluded program such as Doctor of Pharmacy, Optometry, Social Work, or listed 2+2 pathways
- Enroll full time in the first and second terms
- Continue to pay international tuition fees while receiving the award
