The University of Rochester Alan and Jane Handler Endowed Scholarship is the university's premier undergraduate scholarship for students with outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and financial need. The official scholarship page states that Handler Scholars receive complete financial support, including tuition, fees, room, board, books, personal expenses, and transportation. It also provides access to individualized academic mentoring and participation in Rochester's scholar community. The award is recorded as full funding because it covers the full cost of attendance rather than only tuition; the annual USD value is an estimate based on Rochester's published cost-of-attendance scale for undergraduate study. Applicants may nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else, and the nomination or application window opens September 15 and closes November 30 each year. To be considered, the student must also submit the Common Application or Coalition Application for admission to the University of Rochester by December 1. The selection process evaluates academic excellence, leadership potential, and demonstrated financial need, and applicants must complete required financial-aid materials, including the CSS Profile and other documents requested by Rochester.

Eligibility

• Apply for first-year undergraduate admission to the University of Rochester
• Submit the Common Application or Coalition Application by December 1
• Complete the Handler Scholarship nomination or application during the annual window
• Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement
• Demonstrate leadership potential and meaningful engagement
• Show financial need through Rochester's required financial-aid materials
• Submit the CSS Profile and any additional documents requested by Rochester
• Meet Rochester admission and English proficiency requirements if applying as an international student
