About this scholarship

The University of Rhode Island University and Presidential Merit Scholarships are four-year admission scholarships for academically strong first-year applicants. URI states that merit scholarships are renewable each semester as long as the recipient maintains continuous full-time undergraduate enrollment of 12 credits per semester and a minimum GPA of 2.8. No separate merit scholarship application is required. All first-year fall applicants whose applications are complete by December 1 receive priority consideration for the full range of URI scholarship awards, including Presidential Scholarships, University Scholarships, and Top Scholarships. The published annual award range for University and Presidential Merit Scholarships is $2,000 to $17,000, with total renewable value of $12,000 to $68,000. The award is partial funding because it reduces cost but does not cover full tuition, fees, housing, meals, health insurance, books, travel, or personal expenses. Eligibility is based on high school academic performance, including recalculated GPA and course selection, plus leadership, recommendations, involvement, and special academic achievements such as the Seal of Biliteracy.

Eligibility

• Apply as a first-year undergraduate applicant to the University of Rhode Island
• Complete a fall application by December 1 for priority scholarship consideration
• Have a recalculated high school GPA of at least 3.2 for merit scholarship consideration
• Present strong academic coursework and performance
• No standardized test scores are required or considered for the scholarship review
• Maintain continuous full-time enrollment for renewal
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.8 for renewal
