University of Minnesota Iron Range Scholarship

Offered by University of Minnesota Twin Cities

About this scholarship

The University of Minnesota Twin Cities Iron Range Scholarship is a competitive academic award for Minnesota residents and students eligible under the Minnesota Dream Act. It provides between $1,000 and $4,000 per year for four years, for a potential total of $4,000 to $16,000. The university notes that most recipients are in the top ten percent of their graduating classes. There is no separate Iron Range Scholarship form. First-year candidates are considered from the University of Minnesota admission application, academic record, intended college and major, and other information available in the review. The fall 2027 Common Application opened August 1, 2026. Applying by the November 1 Early Action I deadline provides the earliest complete review; the university also advises students seeking need-sensitive university scholarships to file the FAFSA by March 1 of senior year. Despite its name, the scholarship’s published eligibility is statewide: it is not restricted only to students from Minnesota’s Iron Range. Applicants should not confuse it with the separate Miesbauer Family and college-specific awards that explicitly prefer Iron Range counties. Selection is limited and meeting residency and academic expectations does not guarantee an offer.
