University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarship
Offered by University of Melbourne
About this scholarship
The University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships are the University's main funding for master's-by-research and doctoral (PhD) students, awarded to both domestic and international students purely on academic merit. A scholarship combines a living allowance of A$39,500 per year (2026 full-time rate) — for up to two years for a master's by research or up to 3.5 years for a doctorate — with a full tuition fee offset (up to two years for a master's by research or up to four years for a doctorate), plus a relocation grant of A$2,000 for students moving from interstate or A$3,000 for those moving from overseas. The process is largely automatic for new students: if you apply for a graduate research course by its application closing date, you are automatically considered, and you will be notified that a scholarship application has been added to your record within ten business days. Students who have deferred or are already enrolled must submit an online application form by 31 October to be considered for the following year. Applicants are scored and ranked on the academic achievement of their most recent degree and their research potential.
