University of Houston Tier One Scholarship

About this scholarship

The University of Houston Tier One Scholarship is a competitive award for incoming Fall 2027 freshmen. Applicants must complete the UH admission application and a separate Tier One scholarship application; admission alone does not enter them for this award. The scholarship covers full tuition and mandatory fees for four years, or five years for Architecture students. It also provides on-campus housing and a meal plan for the first two years, plus a $1,000 research stipend and a $2,000 study-abroad stipend. Housing and meals are not promised for years three and four, so applicants should plan for those costs and for expenses such as travel and health insurance. UH says the scholarship application and admission application are due November 2, 2026 at 5 p.m. Central, while a recommender may submit the recommendation through November 9 at 5 p.m. Central. Applicants need a UH ID to access the scholarship form. Tier One is for new freshmen, not transfer, graduate, or continuing UH students. UH considers academic strength and other application materials; its FAQ discusses high test scores and class rank as helpful, not mandatory. UH does not publish a fixed number of awards for this cycle.
