The University of Bologna — the oldest university in the Western world — offers "International Talents @Unibo" study grants to attract outstanding international students to its second-cycle (master's) degree programmes. Each year the University funds 30 study grants worth €6,500 per academic year, awarded for two academic years, and successful applicants additionally receive a full tuition-fee waiver, leaving them to pay only about €157 in regional taxes, stamp duty, and insurance — making the package effectively comprehensive for tuition while contributing toward living costs. Eligibility is for international students who matriculate in a master's programme at Bologna and whose qualification for admission was obtained at an institution outside the Italian education system, regardless of citizenship. Awards are based on GRE test scores and verification of financial status, so applicants submit their family financial documentation (an ISEE for those with income in Italy, or equivalent documentation for foreign income and assets).
