UCT Charities Heaston Scholarships
Offered by UCT Charities
About this scholarship
The UCT Charities Heaston Scholarship Program awards three national, four-year scholarships to graduating high-school seniors who have worked through significant obstacles while succeeding in school and serving their communities. One recipient receives $6,000 per year for four years, and two recipients receive $3,000 per year for four years. The same application is used for all three awards; the selection committee decides which named and funded award each finalist receives. Applicants must enter a college program in the coming academic year and submit one complete paper packet containing the signed application, a personal narrative of no more than two pages, three recommendation letters, official transcripts from every high school attended, and a college acceptance letter when available. The narrative should explain academic and extracurricular work, hardships or challenges, persistence, and commitment to community service. Required recommendations come from the high-school principal, a teacher or guidance counselor, and a representative of a community-service program. This is not a need-based award. UCT uses achievement, service, work ethic, and evidence of overcoming obstacles, with the narrative serving as a tie-breaker among similarly qualified candidates. The complete packet must be received—not merely postmarked—by March 15, and electronic or faxed submissions are not accepted.
