UBC International Major Entrance Scholarship
Offered by University of British Columbia
About this scholarship
The UBC International Major Entrance Scholarship is a merit-based entrance scholarship for exceptional international students beginning undergraduate study at the University of British Columbia. UBC states that students are automatically considered after receiving an offer of admission if they apply by the admissions deadline, so there is no separate IMES application. For the 2026-2027 academic year, IMES awards are valued at CAD $10,000 to CAD $25,000 per year and are renewable for up to three additional years of study. The award is partial funding because UBC explicitly advises recipients to make a financial plan, and the scholarship does not guarantee full tuition, housing, meals, books, health insurance, travel, or personal expenses. Selection considers academic achievement, intellectual promise, extracurricular involvement, and community involvement. Students nominated for UBC need-and-merit International Scholars awards are not considered for IMES. Only successful recipients are notified, usually after admission and before the admission acceptance deadline.
