Truex Family Scholarship
Offered by The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society
About this scholarship
The Truex Family Scholarship awards $4,000 to one qualifying medical student for the 2026-2027 academic year. Raymond C. Truex Jr., MD, established the scholarship in 2022, and The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society administers the current application. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who were Pennsylvania residents when they graduated from high school. The committee gives geographic preference to residents of Berks, Schuylkill, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. Candidates must be enrolled full time in the second, third, or fourth year at Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. They must demonstrate financial need and community-service work with medically underserved populations. The official criteria also state that preference will be given to the gender least represented according to American Medical Association data. The award-specific portal requires a completed form, two nonfamily reference letters, a medical-school enrollment letter on official letterhead, and a photograph for use if the student is selected. Both references must come from either a medical-school professor or physician and should address integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as a physician. Applications opened July 1 and must be submitted by September 30, 2026. The committee expects to notify applicants in November.
