Trudell Medical Excellence Scholarship

Offered by The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society

About this scholarship

The Trudell Medical Excellence Scholarship provides one $25,000 award for the 2026-2027 academic year. Gene and Cyndee Trudell support the scholarship, and The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society administers its application. The award is highly specialized: applicants must be fourth-year students in the top 10 percent of their medical-school class and intend to practice cardiac surgery, otolaryngology surgery, or pediatric oncology. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, must have established Pennsylvania residency at least 12 months before registering as medical students, and must attend an accredited medical school in Pennsylvania full time. A selected applicant must obtain active student membership in the Pennsylvania Medical Society. The direct application requires a completed form and two letters from medical-school professors describing the candidate’s seriousness of purpose, talent in medicine, and distinctive drive. One of those letters must specifically reference the specialty the student intends to pursue. Applicants also need a letter confirming fourth-year enrollment and top-10-percent academic standing at their Pennsylvania medical school. No separate essay is listed in the official submission guidelines. Applications opened July 1 and close September 30, 2026. The Foundation expects to notify applicants of the committee’s decision in November.
