The Garden Club of America Award in Coastal Wetlands Studies

Offered by The Garden Club of America and Virginia Institute of Marine Science

About this scholarship

The Garden Club of America Award in Coastal Wetlands Studies provides $5,000 to one or more graduate students conducting field-based research on coastal wetlands. Eligible work may address tidal or nontidal wetlands in a coastal state, including wetlands in the Great Lakes region. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, be actively enrolled at a U.S.-based institution, and be pursuing an advanced degree in coastal wetlands science. The application combines a short online form with three emailed components. The research narrative may be up to six pages including references and must explain the hypothesis, methods, completed work, expected benefit to coastal wetlands, use of funds, and plans for sharing results. A curriculum vitae of no more than two pages covers degree status, anticipated graduation, relevant experience, publications, presentations, and career goals. The applicant’s major professor or adviser sends a separate endorsement confirming degree status and evaluating independent-research ability. All four components must arrive by 11:59 p.m. Eastern on January 10. The Virginia Institute of Marine Science panel reviews complete applications, with final approval by GCA; applicants may seek only one GCA scholarship or fellowship per year.
