The Arc New York Joseph T. Weingold Scholarship
Offered by The Arc New York
About this scholarship
The Joseph T. Weingold Scholarship is The Arc New York’s award for students entering or continuing a program that leads to a special education certification or degree. Two applicants receive $3,000 each. The scholarship honors a long-serving advocate whose work helped expand educational opportunity for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and the selection process looks for students whose training can advance that mission. The sponsor’s 2027 application is already live and must be submitted by February 12, 2027. Applicants should use The Arc New York’s linked SurveyMonkey form, not a directory or general organization contact page. A candidate must be accepted or enrolled in an eligible special education pathway at the time of application and should clearly explain education plans, experience with students or adults with intellectual or other developmental disabilities, professional goals, and how the training will improve the field. The Arc New York’s scholarship rules prevent a student currently receiving one of its awards from being selected for another at the same time. The application also requires an academic recommendation written specifically for the scholarship, signed by the instructor, and presented on school or program letterhead. Recipients should expect installment-based disbursement and to document continued enrollment and eligible education expenses when claiming funds.
