The Texas Tech University Presidential Merit Scholarship is an automatic first-year merit scholarship for entering first-time freshmen who show exceptional academic ability. Texas Tech's international scholarship page states that Presidential Merit Scholarships are awarded based on superior test scores and class ranking, and that GPA and class ranking for international applicants are calculated from transcripts by the International Undergraduate Admissions Office. Annual award amounts are divided half toward fall and half toward spring terms. The official page does not publish a current dollar table on the international scholarship page, so amount value is left null rather than guessed. The award is still high-impact for international and other nonresident students because Texas Tech states that non-resident students awarded a Presidential Scholarship also qualify to pay in-state tuition. The award is partial funding because it does not guarantee full tuition, fees, housing, meals, insurance, books, travel, or personal costs. No supplemental scholarship application is required for the first-year Presidential Scholarship; qualified students receive an offer letter from the President's Office by email. Texas Tech notes that all merit awards are guaranteed for students admitted by April 15, with later admission limited by scholarship availability.
