Texas Educational Opportunity Grant Program (TEOG)
Offered by Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and participating public colleges
About this scholarship
The Texas Educational Opportunity Grant helps financially needy Texas residents complete an associate degree, certificate, or other approved credential at a participating public community college, public state college, public technical institute, or the Polytechnic College at Sam Houston State University. Students do not submit a separate state grant form. They file the FAFSA—or TASFA if they are not eligible for federal aid—and their college determines eligibility and the actual award from its limited TEOG allocation. For 2026–27, semester maximums are $1,840 at public state colleges, $3,896 at public technical institutes, and $2,134 at public community colleges; a student may receive fall, spring, and summer grants up to the applicable limits. Initial recipients must be Texas residents with financial need, enroll at least half time as undergraduates, and be within the first 45 semester credit hours excluding dual-credit and examination hours. When funds are insufficient, renewal recipients receive first priority. Among initial applicants, priority goes to recent top-quarter graduates and students with a Student Aid Index no higher than $6,478, with a new rule requiring offers to eligible students who satisfy both conditions. Renewal requires satisfactory academic progress; after the second award year, recipients need a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 75% completion rate.
