About this scholarship

The Stony Brook University #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship is an annual renewable tuition scholarship for first-year international undergraduates with a vision for intercultural understanding. Stony Brook states that awardees receive a scholarship covering 50 percent of tuition. Eligible applicants must be first-year undergraduate international applicants for the fall 2026 semester, hold citizenship outside the United States, and not also possess U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. Selection is holistic and considers academic fit, activities involving intercultural learning, leadership experiences, goals and aspirations, video quality, and creativity. The award is partial funding because it covers a tuition percentage rather than full tuition, fees, housing, meals, health insurance, books, travel, or personal expenses. Applicants first apply for admission by the published deadline, then submit the #YouAreWelcomeHere application in the StartSBU portal with a two- to five-minute video describing leadership skills and how they plan to continue applying leadership at Stony Brook. Awardees must deposit by May 1 and enroll full time.

Eligibility

• Apply as a first-year undergraduate international applicant to Stony Brook University
• Hold citizenship outside the United States without U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
• Apply for admission by the published #YouAreWelcomeHere deadline
• Submit the scholarship application in the StartSBU portal
• Provide a two- to five-minute leadership and intercultural-learning video
• Meet Stony Brook international admission and English proficiency requirements
• Pay the enrollment deposit by May 1 if selected and enroll full time
