Stipendium Hungaricum
Offered by Government of Hungary (Tempus Public Foundation)
About this scholarship
Stipendium Hungaricum is the Hungarian government's flagship scholarship, run by the Tempus Public Foundation, funding international students from partner countries to study at Hungarian universities at bachelor's, master's, one-tier master's, doctoral, and non-degree levels. The scholarship provides tuition-free education, a monthly stipend (HUF 43,700 — around €110 — for non-degree, bachelor's and master's students, higher for doctoral candidates), an accommodation contribution (a free dormitory place or HUF 40,000 per month toward housing), and medical insurance. These provisions are a contribution to living costs rather than a full salary, so scholars should budget some additional funds. Applicants apply in two places: online through the DreamApply application system, and to the responsible authority of their home-country Sending Partner (often the local Hungarian embassy, a ministry, or a council), which may set its own deadline and requirements. You can only apply for the scholarship types and study fields covered by the educational cooperation agreement between Hungary and your specific Sending Partner. The central online deadline is typically mid-January (15 January for the 2026/27 cycle).
