About this scholarship

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) runs one of the largest scholarship programs supporting women pursuing degrees in engineering, engineering technology, and computer science. In 2022 SWE disbursed nearly 330 new and renewed scholarships worth more than $1.7 million, with individual award values varying by scholarship (commonly from around $1,000 up to several thousand dollars). A major convenience is that there is a single application: you complete the designated application for your class status and are automatically considered for every Society-selected scholarship you are eligible for, and you do not need to be a SWE member to apply. Eligibility requires studying engineering, engineering technology, or computer science full time at the collegiate level (including re-entry students), in a program accredited by ABET, the India National Board of Accreditation, or at a SWE Global Affiliate School in India, with a high-school GPA above 3.5 or a university GPA above 3.0. The application system is hosted at scholarships.swe.org; the sophomore-through-graduate cycle typically opens in December and closes in February, while the incoming first-year application opens in spring.

Eligibility

  • Be a woman studying engineering, engineering technology, or computer science full time
  • Be enrolled in an ABET-accredited program (or recognized equivalent / SWE Global Affiliate School in India)
  • Have a high-school GPA above 3.5 or a university GPA above 3.0
  • Complete the single SWE application for your class status (membership not required)
  • Apply within the cycle for your year (sophomore+ Dec–Feb; first-years in spring)

Always verify amounts and deadlines on the official site; they change each cycle.
