SFM Foundation Scholarship

Offered by SFM Foundation

About this scholarship

The SFM Foundation Scholarship helps Minnesota and Iowa students whose parent or guardian was killed or seriously injured in a work-related accident. Awards range from $1,000 to $15,000 per year and can pay tuition, required books, and fees at an accredited two-year or four-year college, vocational school, or graduate school. Funds cannot be used for room, board, or general living costs. Eligible applicants are ages 16 through 27, live in Minnesota or Iowa, and are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. The affected worker must have been employed by a Minnesota- or Iowa-based employer and entitled to workers’ compensation or a comparable work-injury benefit. Applicants download the official fillable PDF, document the injury and household finances, describe educational goals and financial need, and provide certified transcripts, identification, two nonrelative recommendation letters, injury documentation, school acceptance or attendance verification, and estimated educational costs. The completed packet must reach SFM Foundation by March 31, 2027 for the 2027-2028 academic year and may be mailed or faxed using the instructions on the sponsor page. Recipients generally remain enrolled full time in at least 12 credits and maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Awards may renew for up to two years in a two-year program or five years toward a bachelor’s degree, with graduate awards also available, provided the recipient supplies enrollment and transcript documentation each term.
