About this scholarship

The Science@Leuven Scholarship is offered by the Faculty of Science at KU Leuven — consistently one of Europe's top universities — to recognise and support excellent, motivated international students entering one of its master's programmes, such as Astronomy and Astrophysics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Mathematics, Statistics, and Geography. The scholarship contributes toward the cost of study (the exact amount and what it covers are published on the Faculty of Science page), helping high-achieving students afford their studies in Belgium. Only students who have achieved excellent results — equivalent to at least a Distinction at KU Leuven — in their previous studies are considered, and because the number of scholarships is limited each year, the competition is strong. A convenient feature is the timing: you can apply for the scholarship as soon as you have applied for a specific eligible programme, without waiting to be accepted onto the master's. Applications for the 2026-2027 year are open until around 15 February. Applicants should review the list of eligible Faculty of Science programmes and the current award details on the official KU Leuven scholarships pages.

Eligibility

  • Be an international student applying to an eligible KU Leuven Faculty of Science master's
  • Have excellent prior results (equivalent to at least a Distinction at KU Leuven)
  • Apply for the scholarship once you have applied for the programme (acceptance not required first)
  • Submit by the deadline (around 15 February for the following year)
  • Review the eligible-programme list on the Faculty of Science site

Always verify amounts and deadlines on the official site; they change each cycle.
