About this scholarship
Schwarzman Scholars is a fully funded, one-year Master of Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing, combining graduate study with leadership training, mentorship, speakers, and experience in China. The award covers tuition and fees, room and board, travel to and from Beijing, books and supplies, a personal laptop and smartphone, a monthly stipend, and an in-country study trip. The U.S./Global application for the 2027–28 class is open from April 8 through September 9, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Applicants must be at least 18 but not yet 29 on August 1, 2027 and must complete all undergraduate degree requirements by that date. The online application is in English and includes academic history and transcripts, a resume, a 750-word leadership essay, a 500-word statement of purpose, and three recommendations. English-test results are required unless the applicant is a native speaker or completed at least two years of undergraduate or graduate study in a program taught in English. Citizens of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan must use the separate China application, whose 2026 submission period has already closed; other citizens use the live U.S./Global route. Selection emphasizes leadership, intellect, integrity, and the ability to bridge cultural and political differences.
Eligibility
- Complete all undergraduate degree requirements by August 1, 2027
- Be at least 18 but not yet 29 years old on August 1, 2027
- Demonstrate English proficiency or qualify for the native-speaker or 2-year English-medium study exemption
- Submit transcripts, a resume, a 750-word leadership essay, a 500-word statement of purpose, and 3 recommendations
- Use the separate China application if you hold citizenship from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan
- For the open U.S./Global track, submit by September 9, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time
