About this scholarship
Austin College’s Sara Bernice Moseley Scholarships award $500 to $1,000 annually to incoming students who are active members of a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation and have distinguished themselves in the classroom and through service. A limited number are available each year. The live sponsor-owned form establishes the controlling membership rule: the student must document at least two years of active PC(USA) membership, combining time across congregations if necessary. A qualifying Presbyterian professional, current or former church officer, Austin College trustee, or Austin College graduate who belongs to a PC(USA) congregation nominates the student through the direct online form. The committee evaluates academic achievement, leadership and personal character, involvement in the life of the Church, and service or ministry to others. The nominator supplies specific examples in responses about those qualities, along with the student’s school and congregation details. The scholarship is renewable throughout the recipient’s undergraduate enrollment if the student remains full-time, maintains good academic standing, and continues meaningful church, ministry, or community service. Austin College’s current award page says applications should be submitted by March 1; this record therefore shows the next annual occurrence. The directory’s $4,000 listing was replaced with the college’s official $500–$1,000 annual range.
Eligibility
- Be an incoming Austin College student
- Have been an active member of a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation for at least the past 2 years
- Demonstrate academic achievement
- Demonstrate leadership through church, school, or community activities
- Demonstrate service or ministry to others
- Be nominated through the official form by an eligible PC(USA) professional or officer, Austin College trustee, or Austin College graduate who is a PC(USA) member
- Submit the official nomination/application by March 1
- For renewal, remain a full-time Austin College student in good academic standing and active in ministry or service
