Roberts Filter Group Charles Chick Roberts Scholarship

Offered by American Water Works Association and Roberts Filter Group

About this scholarship

The Roberts Filter Group Charles “Chick” Roberts Scholarship awards $5,000 to an undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral student studying water technologies in Pennsylvania. The American Water Works Association administers the corporate scholarship through its Water Equation program. The 2027-2028 application is open now and closes November 6, 2026. Applicants do not need an AWWA membership, but the common program rule requires permanent residency in the United States, Canada, or Mexico. A competitive applicant should clearly document an eligible Pennsylvania-based water-technology course of study and explain how the education or research relates to the water sector. AWWA’s academic scholarships are merit based, so GPA and the academic record are important parts of review. Any required recommendation must be submitted before the deadline by a faculty member, dean, or professional familiar with the applicant’s work; personal recommendations from family or friends are not recognized. Scholarship money is paid directly to the institution and may be used for tuition, books, lab fees, lab equipment, or conference registration. It cannot be used for rent, per diem expenses, or a living stipend. The student applies through the official AwardSpring portal after creating or using an AWWA account. Late or incomplete files are not forwarded to the scholarship committee, and committee decisions are final.
