Robert B. B. and Josephine N. Moorman Scholarship

Offered by American Society of Civil Engineers

About this scholarship

The Robert B. B. and Josephine N. Moorman Scholarship is an American Society of Civil Engineers tuition award for a continuing undergraduate in civil engineering or a closely related discipline. The recipient must be enrolled in, and remain enrolled in, an ABET-accredited or equivalent undergraduate program and be an ASCE member in good standing both when applying and when the award is made. ASCE may select one recipient each year, and the amount is set annually from the scholarship endowment rather than guaranteed at a fixed figure. Funds go to the student’s institutional account and may pay undergraduate tuition and academic fees reasonably connected with the engineering program. ASCE evaluates the essay, education plans, academic performance, potential for development, leadership, and financial need. The online application must be completed in one session. Applicants prepare a single PDF containing the signed contact-information form, detailed annual budget, a personal essay of no more than 500 words, and a one-page résumé. The essay addresses the applicant’s motivation for civil engineering, ASCE Student Chapter involvement, and long-term plans. At least two signed recommendation letters on letterhead are submitted online by their authors, including one from a faculty member, and an official transcript must be sent by the institution to ASCE. All materials are due by the annual January 15 deadline. Previous recipients may reapply in a later competition while they continue to satisfy every requirement.
