About this scholarship

The RCN Foundation — the charity associated with the Royal College of Nursing — runs education grants to support people training and working in nursing across the UK, and the Into Nursing Grant is one of the few open to those entering undergraduate-level nurse education. It is aimed specifically at career changers: applicants must already hold a previous degree in any academic discipline and be eligible to apply for (or have already started) a nursing degree or postgraduate diploma course with an eligible start date. The grant helps with study and living costs, with the current value published on the RCN Foundation website when a round opens; as a contribution toward costs rather than full funding, it is classed here as partial. Importantly, you do not need to be a member of the RCN to apply. Eligibility also requires at least 500 hours of healthcare experience in the last five years, and applicants must live in the UK and have a firm intention to work in the UK after qualifying. Applications are made online (you can request a Word version of the form from the Foundation) and require two references — one from your manager and one academic reference from your previous undergraduate degree. The Foundation opens grants in seasonal rounds (spring and autumn), so applicants should watch the site or newsletter for open windows.
