Pursuit of Hospitality – The George William Roe Scholarship
Offered by Saginaw Community Foundation
About this scholarship
Pursuit of Hospitality – The George William Roe Scholarship helps Saginaw County students prepare for careers in hotel, lodging, resort, and related hospitality management. Applicants may be graduating high school seniors or current college students, must have at least a 3.0 GPA, and must pursue a full-time undergraduate hospitality-management degree. The fund’s namesake graduated from Arthur Hill High School and Michigan State University’s School of Hospitality Business before building an international hotel-operations career. His own study-abroad scholarship opened professional opportunities in India, Thailand, Dubai, Las Vegas, and Singapore, motivating him to help future Saginaw hospitality students gain similarly broad experiences. The official fund page does not publish a fixed dollar amount, so this record identifies the award as variable instead of repeating the directory estimate. Students apply through the Saginaw Community Foundation common portal, which matches a single submission against compatible funds. The 2027 application opens November 1, 2026 and closes February 12, 2027. Selection gives the greatest weight to overall involvement in work, school, and community activities, followed by career goals in the general essay, leadership, and academic performance. Applicants should prepare a transcript, unrelated reference, Foundation questionnaire, and complete account of relevant activities before the deadline.
