About this scholarship

Point Foundation is the United States' largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ+ students, supporting them through college and beyond with financial aid, mentorship, leadership development, and a national community. It offers several programs: the Flagship Scholarship for students pursuing undergraduate, graduate, or professional degrees; the Access Scholarship for LGBTQ+ and ally students who are (or will be) the first in their family to earn a bachelor's degree and/or come from low-income backgrounds; and the Community College Scholarship for students earning an associate degree or coursework leading to a four-year transfer. Awards are based on financial need (with renewal for up to four years) and selection uses a holistic process weighing merit and need. General requirements include being out as LGBTQ+ and attending (or planning to attend) an accredited university, college, or school in the U.S. The Flagship Scholarship application opens in September and closes in early December, and applications are accepted online only, with no submissions accepted outside that window. Becoming a Point Scholar also connects recipients to the Foundation's mentoring and professional-development network.

Eligibility

  • Be out as LGBTQ+ (some programs also include allies)
  • Attend (or plan to attend) an accredited university, college, or school in the US
  • Demonstrate financial need (holistic merit-plus-need review)
  • Apply to the relevant program (Flagship, Access, or Community College)
  • Submit online within the application window (Flagship: September–early December)

Always verify amounts and deadlines on the official site; they change each cycle.
