Penn State Barry H. Marshal Scholarship

Offered by Penn State Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity

About this scholarship

The Barry H. Marshal Scholarship provides financial assistance and recognition to outstanding undergraduates who are enrolled or planning to enroll at any Penn State campus and who advocate for or contribute to the LGBTQ+ community. Penn State’s Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity administers the opportunity and links directly to the current Microsoft nomination form. Scholarship nominations open in the fall semester, with awards made during the spring semester. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and have a FAFSA on file so the university can assess that need. The selection criteria also consider actual or anticipated advocacy, service, or other contributions benefiting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and related communities. Students from New York State receive preference, as do applicants in good academic standing, but those preferences are not absolute eligibility restrictions. The university does not publish a guaranteed award amount on the official program page, so the amount is correctly listed as variable rather than repeating an unsupported third-party estimate. Prospective and current Penn State undergraduates should review the official resource page, complete the linked form during the fall nomination period, and ensure their FAFSA and Penn State records are current before selection.
