Pearl Berlin Scholarship

Offered by Guilford Green Foundation & LGBTQ Center

About this scholarship

The Pearl Berlin Scholarship supports graduating North Carolina high school seniors who identify as LGBTQ+ or as straight allies and who have demonstrated leadership or a desire to serve the LGBTQ+ community. The Guilford Green Foundation & LGBTQ Center created the award in honor of Pearl Berlin, a marriage-equality advocate whose work in North Carolina emphasized courage, education, and equal rights. Applicants must live in Guilford, Forsyth, Rockingham, Randolph, or Alamance County and plan to enter an accredited institution of higher education in the fall after graduation. The foundation’s scholarship committee may make several awards of up to $1,000 each or one award of up to $3,000, depending on the number and quality of applications. The sponsor publishes an annual deadline of February 14 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time and links directly to its Microsoft application form. Selection emphasizes community leadership and service rather than restricting applicants to one major or type of accredited postsecondary institution. Students should use the official form, describe their LGBTQ+ community involvement or service goals thoroughly, and submit before the Eastern Time cutoff. The maximum is not guaranteed because the committee chooses the final award structure each spring.
