Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS)
Offered by Government of Ontario with Ontario universities
About this scholarship
The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) is a merit-based award, jointly funded by the Government of Ontario and participating Ontario universities, that has supported top graduate students across all disciplines since 1975. Each award is worth CAD $5,000 per session, so a student may receive $10,000 over two consecutive sessions or $15,000 over three; the awarding university contributes one-third of the total cost. Both domestic and international students are eligible, though international students compete for a set number of OGS awards at each institution and must hold a valid study permit effective as of the graduate unit's international application deadline. To qualify, you must be enrolled (or about to enrol) full time in a master's or doctoral program at a publicly assisted Ontario university, for at least two terms in the academic year, and have at least an A− average (or equivalent) over your last two years of study. Applications are submitted to your proposed graduate unit through the university's centralised OGS application, and each unit sets its own internal deadline — commonly falling between November and February. Required materials typically include transcripts, a plan of study, a record of awards/research, and two academic references.
