MSU Honors College STATE Scholarship
Offered by Michigan State University
About this scholarship
The MSU Honors College STATE Scholarship provides $5,000 per year to a select group of high-achieving Michigan-resident students invited to Michigan State University’s Honors College. The scholarship is paid as $2,500 per semester and may renew for eight consecutive fall and spring semesters, producing a maximum scheduled value of $20,000. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens and must remain classified as Michigan residents for tuition purposes. MSU considers first-year admission applicants automatically for Honors College membership and this scholarship; it does not offer a separate public STATE Scholarship form. Students seeking Fall 2027 consideration should submit a complete admission application and all required materials by November 1, 2026 and choose Early Action. The official Apply page linked below presents MSU’s own application along with the Common Application and Coalition with Scoir options. Selected students must accept their university offer and Honors College invitation by May 1. Continued payment requires good standing in the Honors College, including academic progress toward at least a 3.2 cumulative MSU GPA and completion of the required Honors-caliber experiences. Recipients must also complete at least 12 credits each funded semester. This award generally cannot be combined with MSU’s larger Distinguished First-year or Alumni Distinguished Scholarships, and the university may adjust it when other MSU merit support is present.
