About this scholarship

The MSU Honors College Excellence Scholarship is an international-eligible undergraduate scholarship for high-achieving Michigan State University applicants invited to the Honors College. MSU states that the scholarship is awarded to a select group of non-Michigan residents and international students who are Honors College invitees. The Excellence Scholarship awards $13,000 annually over eight semesters. It is partial funding because it reduces the cost of attendance but does not cover full tuition, mandatory fees, housing, food, health insurance, books, transportation, and personal expenses. There is no separate application process for the Honors College; all students who apply to MSU are considered for Honors College selection, and consideration for Honors College scholarship awards is automatic. The scholarship is therefore accessed through the MSU undergraduate admission application rather than a separate scholarship form. Under the international scholarship regulations, recipients must maintain international residency for tuition purposes if receiving the award as an international student, enroll for the semester awarded, and remain in good academic standing. MSU notes that in some cases a limited number of awards is available.

Eligibility

• Apply as an incoming first-year undergraduate student to Michigan State University
• Be invited to the Michigan State University Honors College
• Be an international student or other non-Michigan resident under the award rules
• No separate Honors College scholarship application is required
• Selection is based on a holistic review of the admission and Honors College record
• Enroll at MSU for the semester the scholarship is awarded
• Maintain required residency, enrollment, and academic-standing conditions for continuation
