The Montgomery County Medical Society William W. Lander, MD, Medical Student Scholarship provides two $2,500 awards for the 2026-2027 academic year. Montgomery County Medical Society and local physicians fund the program, and The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society administers its direct application. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must have been Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, residents either when they graduated from high school or for at least four years before registering as medical students. Candidates must be entering or enrolled in their first year full time at a fully accredited U.S. medical school. The award-specific portal requires a completed application, one nonfamily reference letter addressing integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as a physician, and a medical-school letter on official letterhead verifying full-time first-year enrollment. Applicants also submit an essay of no more than 750 words explaining why they are pursuing medicine, their personal goals, and their plans for the profession. This scholarship is specifically designed for Montgomery County students beginning medical training, but the accredited medical school may be located anywhere in the United States. Applications opened July 1 and must be submitted by September 30, 2026. The committee plans to notify applicants in November.
Eligibility
- Be a United States citizen
- Have been a Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, resident at high-school graduation or for at least four years before registering as a medical student
- Be entering or enrolled in the first year of medical school
- Be enrolled full time at a fully accredited United States medical school
- Submit one nonfamily reference letter addressing integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as a physician
- Provide a medical-school letter on letterhead verifying full-time first-year enrollment
- Write an essay of 750 words or fewer about pursuing medicine, personal goals, and professional plans
- Submit the complete application by September 30, 2026
