Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant
Offered by Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid
About this scholarship
The Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant supports Mississippi residents who attend approved public or private nonprofit two- or four-year institutions in the state and receive less than the maximum Federal Pell Grant. MTAG pays up to $500 per academic year for freshmen and sophomores and up to $1,000 for juniors and seniors. It can continue for eight semesters or until degree completion and does not fund summer study. Entering freshmen generally need one year of Mississippi residency, a 2.5 high school GPA or qualifying GED, equivalency, or home-school record, and a minimum 15 ACT; ACT superscores are accepted. Current college students can qualify after completing at least 12 hours with a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Every recipient must pursue a first certificate, associate, or bachelor's degree and remain continuously enrolled full-time, normally 12 hours per semester. Students apply annually through MAAPP by September 15 and file the FAFSA so the state can determine Pell eligibility. Requested documents, including residency materials for new applicants and some students returning after an enrollment break, are due October 15. Renewal evaluation includes the 2.5 GPA and continuous full-time enrollment requirements.
