Michigan State University Non-resident Scholarship
Offered by Michigan State University
About this scholarship
The Michigan State University Non-resident Scholarship reduces tuition costs for incoming domestic first-year students whose residency is outside Michigan. All admitted domestic out-of-state first-year applicants are automatically considered; there is no separate scholarship form. MSU assigns one of four annual award levels based on academic achievement and excellence beyond the classroom: the $15,000 President's Scholarship, $12,000 Provost's Scholarship, $10,000 Dean's Scholarship, or $7,000 1855 Scholarship. Students with at least a 3.4 GPA on a 4.0 scale are guaranteed a minimum $7,000 award, subject to admission and program rules. The scholarship can continue for eight consecutive fall and spring semesters, giving the highest tier a maximum potential value of $60,000. Recipients must preserve out-of-state tuition residency, enroll in and complete at least 12 credits each semester unless MSU approves an exception in advance, and remain in good academic standing. Fall 2027 applicants should submit the complete first-year admission application and all required materials by November 1, 2026, selecting Early Action, to receive maximum scholarship consideration. Later applicants can still be considered for remaining funds. MSU accepts its own application, the Common Application, or Coalition with Scoir; the Apply button below opens MSU's official application portal.
