Mica Hammond Fund Education Reimbursement for Special Needs Families
Offered by Mica Hammond Fund and CharitySmith
About this scholarship
The Mica Hammond Fund plans to award approximately two $1,000 education reimbursements each year to needs-based families of children with rare or undiagnosed diseases. The prospective student may be the child with the condition or an immediate family member pursuing college or another educational program. Funds are restricted to tuition or similar education costs and are sent directly to the recipient’s college or school, not to the student. CharitySmith’s official application form is live and states that submissions are due at the end of April; possible follow-up occurs from April through June, with recipients normally notified from June through August. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and explain the family’s circumstances, including the rare or undiagnosed condition, anticipated school and matriculation dates, education expenses, challenges the family has overcome, and the student’s education and career plans. The response should also describe how those plans may benefit special-needs families or the broader community. A transcript is required; a resume and recommendation letters are optional. Past recipients and people who administer or select for the fund are ineligible. Applicants must also agree to limited award publicity and provide a photo if selected.
