Maryland State Delegate Scholarship

Offered by Maryland General Assembly and Maryland Higher Education Commission

About this scholarship

The Maryland State Delegate Scholarship lets members of the Maryland House of Delegates award education funding to residents of their legislative districts. For 2026–2027, the official award range is $200 to $14,086, subject to each Delegate's allocation and available funds. The program can support current high-school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students, and private career-school enrollees studying full time or part time. Applicants normally use the Maryland General Assembly district finder to identify and contact their State Delegate, because each office sets its own instructions, documentation, and deadline. If a Delegate instead asks the Office of Student Financial Assistance to identify recipients, the student must file the FAFSA by March 1; an applicant eligible for Maryland in-state tuition but not federal aid uses the MHEC One-App. Awards are generally used at eligible Maryland colleges, universities, or private career schools. Limited out-of-state use may be approved for a unique major unavailable in Maryland, qualifying active-duty military circumstances, or disability-related provisions. The award is not automatically renewable, and students must reapply through their Delegate each year. Total Maryland state scholarship aid cannot exceed the institution's calculated cost of attendance.

Eligibility

  • Be eligible for Maryland in-state tuition and apply through the State Delegate serving the applicant's district
  • Be a current high-school senior, degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student, or eligible private career-school enrollee
  • Enroll at least part time: normally six or more credits per semester, with program-specific full-time thresholds
  • Follow the Delegate's specific application instructions and deadline
  • File the FAFSA by March 1 when the Delegate asks the Office of Student Financial Assistance to select recipients
  • Use the MHEC One-App instead of the FAFSA when eligible for in-state tuition but ineligible for federal aid
  • Reapply each year because the scholarship is not automatically renewable
