Maryland Graduate and Professional Scholarship Program

Offered by Maryland Higher Education Commission

About this scholarship

The Maryland Graduate and Professional Scholarship Program is a need-based state award for Maryland residents enrolled in selected graduate and professional programs. Annual awards range from $1,000 to $5,000, although available funding may not cover every eligible applicant. Qualifying study includes dentistry, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social work, and veterinary medicine at institutions specifically authorized by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. The official list includes programs at the University of Maryland, Baltimore; the University of Baltimore School of Law; Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine; and certain Maryland institutions offering eligible master's programs in nursing or social work or a first professional pharmacy degree. Students may enroll full time or part time. To seek consideration, an applicant files the FAFSA and contacts the financial-aid office at the institution they will attend; each participating school establishes its own deadline and selects recipients according to demonstrated financial need. The award can continue for as many as eight semesters when the student stays in an eligible program, maintains the institution's satisfactory academic progress standard, files a FAFSA each year, and continues to demonstrate need.
