Marshall Islands Scholarship, Grant and Loan Board Financial Assistance Program

Offered by Marshall Islands Scholarship, Grant and Loan Board

About this scholarship

The Marshall Islands Scholarship, Grant and Loan Board provides need-based tertiary education assistance to qualified Marshallese students in fields that support the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Current priority areas include education, health, climate and environmental science, information technology, commerce, public administration, marine studies, social sciences, law and policing, engineering, agriculture, and aquaculture. The 2024 regulations set annual ceilings of $21,000 for undergraduates and $25,000 for postgraduate students, plus separate summer ceilings of $5,000 and $6,000. Assistance can cover approved education and living costs, but it begins as a student loan. Recipients must sign a loan agreement, return to serve the RMI for at least one year for every funded year, and provide a guarantor in the RMI. Failure to complete the program or fulfill the return-service obligation can trigger repayment. Applicants choose the appropriate new, continuing, or postgraduate form on the official application page and submit it by email, in person, or by post. Deadlines are November 1 for spring study in the northern system, December 15 for South Pacific and other non-US academic years, April 1 for summer, and June 30 for the next northern academic year.
