Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS)
Offered by Government of Malaysia — Ministry of Higher Education
About this scholarship
The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is the Malaysian government's scholarship, administered by the Ministry of Higher Education, for international students to pursue full-time postgraduate study (master's, PhD, or post-doctoral) at Malaysian public universities and selected private institutions. It is comprehensive, covering approved tuition fees, a monthly maintenance allowance of RM 1,500, airfare from the recipient's capital city to Malaysia, an annual grant for books and internal travel, medical/health insurance, an installation and termination grant, and a thesis allowance for PhD and post-doctoral scholars. Eligibility is open to citizens of MIS recipient countries who are pursuing (or about to pursue) full-time postgraduate studies, are no more than 45 years old at application, and meet a high academic bar — a Second Class Upper (Honours) or CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at bachelor's level for master's applicants, and a strong master's record for PhD applicants in a related field. English proficiency is required (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent TOEFL). Applicants register on the MIS portal, complete the form, upload supporting documents as PDFs, and submit before the annual deadline (the 2026 window ran early March to early April).
