M. R. Hellie Memorial Scholarship
Offered by Local Change Foundation
About this scholarship
The Local Change Foundation offers the M. R. Hellie Memorial Scholarship to graduating seniors at accredited Colorado high schools who are applying to or have been accepted by a college or university. Individual awards range from $1,000 to $5,000. The official annual application window runs from January 1 through March 1 and the sponsor places the Apply Now control on its scholarship page when the form is active. Applicants prepare an essay of no more than 500 words addressing why they are applying, their college plans, important influences, goals, accomplishments, community service, and work experience. The supporting packet also includes a high-school transcript, two references from people outside the applicant's family, a recent photo, and a screenshot of the FAFSA Student Aid Index; the Colorado Application for State Financial Aid is accepted for DACA students. An admission letter is preferred, although counselor verification that the student has applied may be used. Elevations Credit Union membership is encouraged but is not required. Students should gather financial-aid documentation and references before the January opening so the complete application can be submitted by March 1.
