Lynn Buerki Memorial Scholarship

Offered by Sedgwick County Conservation District

About this scholarship

The Sedgwick County Conservation District awards one $1,000 Lynn Buerki Memorial Scholarship each year to a local student preparing for work connected to agricultural or natural-resource conservation. Eligible applicants are high-school students or first-year college students who either live in Sedgwick County, Kansas, or have a parent or grandparent who owns land there. The recipient must attend a Kansas school full time and pursue a conservation-related curriculum such as agronomy, range management, forestry, geography, agricultural journalism, agricultural education, conservation science, wildlife management, or another soil-and-water conservation field. Homeschooled students may apply when they meet the same county connection. The packet requires a current transcript, two sealed recommendations—one from a teacher or professor and one from a nonrelative community member—and a one-minute video. Materials must be received at the Conservation District office by 4:00 p.m. on March 1. The scholarship is paid after the recipient completes a successful semester with at least a 3.0 GPA and may be used for tuition, room and board, or books.
