Lex Mathews Scholarship for Women

Offered by Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of North Carolina

About this scholarship

The Lex Mathews Scholarship helps women age 23 or older within the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina obtain practical education that can improve their employment prospects. Eligible study includes vocational or technical training, community college, a college or university degree or certificate below the master's or doctoral level, and continuing education designed to upgrade job skills. Awards generally range from $500 to $2,000 for one academic year, although the amount depends on the committee's evaluation and income available from the fund. Preference goes to Episcopalians. A woman who is not Episcopalian may still apply when sponsored by a member of an Episcopal church. The official page provides an electronic application document, and the completed form and supporting materials are sent by email to the program. Every application must be received by March 15; selections occur in April or May, with recipients notified by the end of May. Applicants should explain the chosen training, its direct relationship to realistic work goals, their financial circumstances, and the Episcopal connection or sponsorship clearly.
