Leslie A. and Helen R. Wilson Memorial Scholarship

Offered by National Willa Cather Center

About this scholarship

The Leslie A. and Helen R. Wilson Memorial Scholarship is a $500 award for a Webster County, Nebraska student pursuing agriculture or secondary education. The National Willa Cather Center administers the fund for applicants who have attended a high school in Webster County and plan to enroll in a two-year or four-year college program. The official rules also evaluate academic standing and community involvement: applicants must rank in the upper third of their graduating class and demonstrate participation in church and community activities. The application includes a student section and a section to be completed by a high-school counselor. It also requires an essay of approximately 400 words explaining the applicant’s goals and objectives. Because the scholarship is tied to both residence and prior schooling, students should verify that their Webster County address and local high-school attendance are clearly documented. The deadline is April 20 each year, making April 20, 2027 the next annual deadline. Applicants should download the official form, complete all requested information, obtain the counselor certification, attach the essay and other listed supporting materials, and use the delivery instructions on the form. This local scholarship is separate from the Center’s statewide and national English and history awards.
